OUR BASIC STATEMENT OF FAITH – WHAT WE BELIEVE
 SCRIPTURE: We believe that the Old and New Testaments are the verbally inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word of God, our only authoritative rule of faith and practice.
GOD: We believe that God is one being—infinitely just, wise, good, loving, holy, and existing eternally in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. He is the Sovereign Creator of the universe. He providentially sustains, and rules all that He has made.
HUMANITY: We believe that mankind, male and female, was the direct creation of God. Mankind was created in the image of God but fell into sin through the disobedience of Adam. Because of the fall, all people are born sinful and alienated from God and are in need of salvation.
JESUS CHRIST: We believe that Jesus Christ is fully divine and fully human and that He saves His people from their sins by His life, death and resurrection. He now reigns in heaven, and continually appears before the Father as our Advocate and Intercessor.
SALVATION: We believe that sinners are justified by grace alone through faith alone based on the finished work of Christ alone (His death and resurrection). True believers have sonship in the family of God and will persevere in this life by the power of God. Believers are also called to work out their salvation with fear and trembling.
THE HOLY SPIRIT: We believe that the Holy Spirit regenerates, indwells, and seals all who become children of God through Christ. The Holy Spirit enables true believers to live godly lives and to use the spiritual gifts He has given them.
THE CHURCH: We believe that God is calling people from all nations to repent and believe in His Son, Jesus Christ. True believers will enjoy fellowship with God and each other as members of the Body of Christ until He returns.
THE FUTURE: We believe that Christ is ruling now over the Church and the world through His Word and Spirit. He will return to judge the living and the dead and to renew the whole creation.
IN ADDITION to this basic statement of faith, Timonium Presbyterian Church adheres to the tenants of the historic Reformed faith as expressed in the
Westminster Confession and
Catechisms, the Heidelberg
Catechism, the Belgic
Confession, and the Canons of
Dort.
The
Apostles' Creed
Although
not written by the apostles, the Apostles' Creed dates from the
early centuries of the church and provides a concise summary of
essential biblical teachings.
I
believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
I
believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived
by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under
Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended
into the grave. The third day he rose again from the dead. He
ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the
Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the
dead.
I
believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic [i.e., universal]
church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
